*Information collected from the 30th Space Wing for Statistical Purposes: 1.Individual
web pages can be designed to gather and store information. In the case
of the 30th Space Wing's public web site, the only information gathering
of this type are the hit counters recording the total number of visitors
to that particular page since the counter was last reset. 2.The
web server software gathers and stores information in log files. By
default, this information includes the following for every file the
visitor views: a.
IP address of the visitor
b. File names accessed
c. Date and time of the access
d. Access method (i.e. did they view a page, did they post information
to a form, etc)
e. URI stem (the path and file name of the files mnetioned above in
"method")
f. HTTP status (status of the request, i.e. "200" for successful
processing of the request) 3.
In addition to the default information logged, the web server administrator
can select options that will cause the server to log up to 14 other
pieces of information (including user name, and a variety of other data). 4.
The web server administrator can also choose options to specify how
data is stored (i.e. does the log file contain data for one day, one
week, monthly, or up to a specified file size) and determines where
the logs are stored, if they are backed up, and how much of a history
to maintain. The administrator also has the option of turning off logging
completely.
